3 Steps To Being A Healthy Business Owner

October 9, 2019 Corey

If you’re starting a business, you’ll need plenty of energy, drive, and commitment. Staying healthy while launching your company is will make it easier to get everything done. Work-life balance is important, even during the hectic start-up days, but many entrepreneurs find it hard to nurture their health and well-being as they hustle. Follow these tips to take good care of yourself while you work towards your career goals.

Carve Out Time For Exercise

Getting enough physical activity on a regular basis is one of the keys to managing stress, according to the Mayo Clinic. Stress is a fact of life for most entrepreneurs, who wear many hats and often find themselves facing a range of setbacks. To handle stress effectively, work out for 30 minutes at least 3 times a week.

Whether you choose cardio exercise, such as running or tennis, or go for something less intensive, such as restorative yoga or walking, you’ll find that working out boosts endorphins, enhances focus, and promotes calm self-confidence.

Get Enough Deep & Healing Sleep

Famous business moguls like Arianna Huffington and Elon Musk have been open about their sleep problems, according to CNN Business. It’s quite common for entrepreneurs to skip on sleep, but they shouldn’t, because proper sleep is essential to good work performance and health.

People who don’t get enough sleep are at higher risk of becoming obese and developing type 2 diabetes. Some people do well on just 6 hours of sleep, while others need more. To be on the safe side, shoot for at least 7 hours of sleep nightly.

If sleeping well is a problem, try avoiding computers for an hour before bedtime to stop the blue light from display screens from stimulating your brain. You should also keep your bedroom at an optimal temperature of 60 to 67 degrees and keep your bedroom humidity levels at 65 percent or lower. Investing in a new HVAC system or adjusting your existing HVAC system for better sleep will help you to control your bedroom’s temperature and humidity level. Cooler bedroom temperatures promote deep sleep, as do lower humidity levels.

Optimize Your Workspace For Productivity

If the configuration of your workspace isn’t up to par, it may be harder to get things done. Simple changes like  purchasing an ergonomic desk chair that promotes good posture may be enough to enhance productivity. Poor posture can lead to aches and pains that slow you down, both in and out of the office.

Good lighting is also important, so choose energy-conscious LED lighting. Streamlining your desk by removing unnecessary items and arranging what you really need in an organized, left-to-right workflow pattern will also make it easier to take care of business.

When you take control of your health by exercising regularly, getting sufficient sleep, and optimizing your workspace, you’ll find that it’s easier to handle problems, make smart decisions, and hit business targets. Healthy business owners have the energy to make their dreams come true.
