How You Can Properly Protect Your Employees in Your Business Premises

December 3, 2018 Corey

Protecting your business property and assets and investments is one thing – but protecting your employees is another matter altogether. If you have staff working on your premises during the day or in the evening, you need to make sure that they are amply protected as well. Their safety is your responsibility, after all. So how can you ensure that your staff is adequately protected whilst they are in your business premises? Let’s find out.

The basic steps you can take

There are some necessary steps you can take so that you can enhance the security and protection of your staff, as follows:

  • You can check delivery personnel and visitor identities
  • You can verify the identity of the individuals to whom your business delivers
  • You can acquire signatures for the issuance and receipt of stock or goods
  • You can install a CCTV system so you can cover all your exit and entry points

If your business is a high-security risk

If you handle cash or expensive items on a regular basis, you could make use of a protective screen so that you can protect your employees. In addition, you can make use of a CCTV system as well as safes. If you have a business which is in an area with high risk, you can secure your premises (and the safety of your employees) by employing a security guard service such as the security services in Oxford from Securipol Ltd.

Securing your business from criminals and intruders

If you have regular visitors to your business, you can secure your business and employees even further by asking visitors to log in their details in a book at your entry points. Furthermore, you can ask visitors to leave an identification card so that you can issue them with a pass to enter your premises. You can also request your visitors to remove any helmets, caps, or scarves which cover the face so that you can easily identify them if there is a security breach. Some business premises even have height marks by the doors and entry points so staff can gauge a criminal’s height if there is a report of a break-in. If the mark is clearly visible, this can also serve as a deterrent for prospective criminals wanting to target a shop.

For employees who work on their own or at night

If you have employees who work on their own or at night, you may also want to enhance their security by making use of personal alarm systems or a radio link scheme. You can also install controlled access to your premises or make use of a CCTV system with audio capabilities. There are also devices which can issue automatic warnings in case of intruders, and you can, as mentioned, hire security guards or mobile security patrols who can regularly monitor your premises at different times of the day or night.

Security is a concern for everyone, and this holds even truer for the security and protection of your staff and employees. With the proper security measures, however, your staff can be better protected, and your premises will be appropriately protected as well.
