Benefits of Managing Humidity in Your Home

December 2, 2019 Corey

Managing humidity in a home is all about finding balance. Your home shouldn’t have too much moisture in the air and it shouldn’t have very dry air. How you approach the issue of managing humidity will depend on some variables such as the climate, the season, and your own personal health issues. Since it’s possible to add moisture to air with humidifiers or decrease it with dehumidifiers, you will have no trouble achieving ideal balance. There are big advantages to managing humidity, such as better health and protecting your home investment, but the benefits don’t stop there.

Humidifiers Warm Up Rooms

If your home is chillier than you’d like it to be, you’ll be pleased to discover that running a humidifier will warm your room up nicely. There are warm mist humidifiers that boil water and then release steam into rooms. The warm vapor is filled with moisture that elevates the humidity level. These humidifiers are usually impressively quiet while they’re running because the steam is released without the help of fans.

Dehumidifiers Help Allergy Sufferers

Allergy sufferers need help to feel their best at home and dehumidifiers provide plenty of TLC by improving indoor air quality. Dehumidifiers dry out air and make it less dense. When air is thick with moisture, it’s all too easy for allergens, such as dust mites, spores, and mold to trigger allergy symptoms. Allergies may be mild, moderate, or severe, and using a dehumidifier to ease allergy symptoms, no matter their severity, is one of the smartest ways to feel better fast.

Portable, basement, and whole home dehumidifiers are out there, so there are options for every allergy sufferer. The whole house dehumidifiers work with existing home HVAC systems.

Humidifiers Moisturize Dry Skin

Dry air in a home can cause dry skin, but using a humidifier will turn things around. With a humidifier, it’s possible to moisturize parched skin, without putting on endless layers of skin creams or lotions. The moisture in the air will help skin to become softer, smoother, and healthier, rather than cracked and raw.

If you tend to get a dry throat, too, you’ll appreciate the way that a humidifier soothes your throat. Singers often depend on humidifiers because breathing dry air makes it harder for them to sing well, according to Singwise.com. Cool mist humidifiers are recommended by singers, as they are low-maintenance and don’t change the temperature of rooms.

Dehumidifiers Inhibit Mildew Growth

To protect your home and possessions, including walls, upholstered furnishings, clothing, and quilts, you will need to keep mildew in check. Mildew is more likely to proliferate in moist air. If your home has an excess of moisture in the air, you can dry the air out in order to keep mildew at bay. If you notice mildew in smaller areas of your home, such as bathrooms, consider placing portable dehumidifiers in these rooms. They’ll make it harder for mildew to grow.

Now that you know more about the benefits of managing humidity in your home, you’ll be ready to analyze all of the variables and decide what you need. If you can’t quite figure out how to balance humidity on your own, ask an HVAC professional for advice.
